The president of the Confederation of African Football,Patrice Motsepe, has expressed his gratitude to Morocco’s King Mohammed the Sixth for granting Royal Pardon to the Senegalese supporters convicted of offences during the final Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Rabat earlier this year.
Motsepe described the pardon by the King as an uplifting and motivating illustration of the power of football to unite and bring people together in Africa and worldwide.
Eighteen Senegalese supporters and one French citizen were sentenced in February to prison terms ranging from three months to a year for violence against security forces and stadium destruction.
Three of the fans completed their initial three-month terms, while the decree secured the release of the remaining 15.
