While South Sudan continued to make headlines, often for difficult reasons, the story of the young African nation goes beyond the news. For example, Girls with Books inspires a new generation in South Sudan. The organization brings hope and opportunity to girls through education. That was at least the impression gathered following the September 16th dinner organized by the Denver-based organization. The conversation and fundraiser, titled A Spark that Lights the Future, sought to help the community better understand the realities of girls’ education in South Sudan.
Featured speakers included Carol Spahn, former director of the Peace Corps. Micklina Kenya, Girls with Books founder, and award-winning journalist Tamara Banks also spoke.
Sponsors of the event included the Rotary Clubs of Denver Southeast and Rotary Club of Arvada.
