Jannik Sinner of Italy has advanced into the Madrid Open final by defeating Frenchman Arthur Fils, 6-2, 6-4, in the semi-final. This means the world No.1 will go for his first title in Madrid.
The Italian came into the match keen to advance into his fourth consecutive final at ATP Masters 1000.
Standing on his way was 21st seed, Fils.
But the top seed was not to be denied as he fought off the stubborn Frenchman at Estadio Manolo Santana in straight sets.
He prevailed 6-2, 6-4 in the men’s singles semi-final to book a spot in Sunday’s final.
He broke three times without facing a single break point.
In the process, the 24-year-old joins an elite club of decorated players – Rafael Nadal of Spain, Switzerland’s Roger Federer, and the Serb Novak Djokovic – in reaching the final of all nine Masters events.
On Sunday, he will meet either the rising Belgian star, Alexander Blockx, or Olympic champion Alexander Zverev of Germany.
