Former South African Football Association (SAFA) Chief Executive Dennis Mumble believes the country will be ready to step in and host a successful 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament.
If Morocco decides to pull out like it’s allegedly threatening to do, South Africa will have just over a month to prepare to host the 16-team biennial tournament.
Deputy Minister of Sport, Peace Mabe, stated on Sunday that South Africa is the new host of the tournament.
But Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie was forced to release a statement later on, saying South Africa merely expressed its willingness to support CAF should alternative hosting arrangements become necessary.
Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, has vowed to bring the Africa Cup of Nations back to South Africa in 2028.
