South Africa have proved that winning the International Cricket Council’s World Test championship at Lord’s in London last year was no fluke.
The Proteas beat Australia 2-1 in their three match series by winning the third and deciding test match at Newlands in Cape Town by 176 runs.
It’s their fifth series victory over the world’s leading test nation in their last 10 series going back a decade.
One series was drawn. The two teams also contested the World Test Championship final at Lord’s.
Set 288 for victory on the final day, the Proteas bowlers rocked Australia to the core with seven wickets in the first session. The visitors could not recover and were bowled for a paltry 111. Off-spinner, Simon Harmer took six for 16 to complete a memorable victory.
Harmer’s 10-wicket haul in the match was also his first in test cricket.
