The Mangaung Metro education district in the Free State says sport can protect children from social ills such as drug abuse and gangsterism.
District Director for education, December Moloi says it is important to help learners fine-tune their talents, as they can make a living from sports.
The Mangaung District received table tennis equipment at Heide Primary School in Bloemfontein.
The equipment was donated by the People’s Republic of China in partnership with the South African Table Tennis Federation to support youth and school sport development.
Moloi elaborates, “We are proud to be the recipients of this very prestigious, of this generosity from the Minister of Arts and Culture. In the interest of time, we want to commit that we are going to utilize these facilities to benefit the learners.”
