Virgin Atlantic has revealed its Black Friday Sale, which includes attractive deals on both paid and award tickets. Today is your last day to take advantage of this deal.
Black Friday Sale: Half Off Virgin Atlantic Award Redemptions
Matching what British Airways offered last month, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club has halved the price of award space on its own flights. The full amount of taxes and fees still apply, which is over $500 per direction between the USA and London if flying in business class.
Cabin | Normal price | Save 50% price |
Economy Classic | 25,000 | 12,500 |
Premium | 45,000 | 22,500 |
Upper Class | 95,000 | 47,500 |
Travel must be completed by 20 October 2021.
If you are short and need to top up your accounts, Virgin Atlantic will sell you points with a 50% bonus on purchases over 5,000 miles (pricing varies based upon how many points you buy). Virgin also adds a $25 “transition” fee to purchase miles.
The sale runs through 30 November 2020. If your flight is cancelled, Virgin Atlantic will rebook you at no charge on a different flight, as long as it is before 20 October 2021.
Revenue Tickets Also On Sale
From London, Upper Class (business class) tickets are on sale for £999 round-trip to all U.S. destinations. In the other direction, tickets are pricing at around $2,000 r/t. Economy class and premium economy class tickets are also on sale.
These tickets are billed as flexible, though overnight Virgin Atlantic removed general language on its U.S. website about what happens if you need to make voluntary changes to the ticket (please review the fare rules of your specific booking before clicking purchase).
Is It Worthwhile?
This sale is great news for me because I have dragged out reviewing the Virgin Atlantic A350-1000 until the Clubhouse re-opens in London. Generally, though, I find it difficult to justify using points, even at half off, when paid fares are this cheap.
Whether a deal is worthwhile is a subjective question dependent upon your individual situation and pricing, so just be sure to compare using miles versus dollars outright before issuing your ticket.
CONCLUSION
I never thought I’d see business class fares between London and the USA (let alone the West Coast) for £999 r/t. It’s a generous offer, even during the pandemic. Also spending fewer points (especially with the latest Delta devaluation) makes using points at least a more reasonable option now.
