Audi presented its race car in Berlin on Tuesday for its entry into Formula 1 in 2026.
The “Audi Revolut F1 Team” will compete with drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto. At the event, CEO Gernot Döllner and the team management, including Jonathan Wheatley and Mattia Binotto, unveiled the livery of the race car for the debut season.
“For now we are focusing on our task try to develop the car, the most reliable first and the most performing. And when saying performing is both the chassis, the aerodynamics and the powertrain and the power of the engine itself. It’s very fascinating, it’s very challenging, but there is much that can be done,” Binotto commented on his expectations for the first season.
Preparations for the start in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship have been under way for months. The power unit was developed by the specially founded Audi Formula Racing GmbH in Neuburg an der Donau.
This marks the first time in more than a decade that a Formula 1 power unit will be built in Germany. The development of the chassis and the planning of race operations will be based in Hinwil, Switzerland.
The entry is facilitated by new regulations starting in 2026.
These stipulate increased electrification, with the electric drive achieving an output of 400 kW (544 hp), nearly as much as the combustion engine.
Additionally, sustainable fuels are to be used, and a cost cap will also apply to the power unit manufacturers.
