The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, appeared to raise an eyebrow during a peace summit in Florida when his host, Donald Trump, remarked that Russia wanted Ukraine to succeed.
Zelenskyy went on to smile and nod when the US president acknowledged the claim sounded 'a little strange'.
Trump said a draft agreement to end the Russia-Ukraine war was nearly '95% done' and the leaders signalled progress toward a US-Ukraine security agreement, but they acknowledged lingering disagreements on territorial disputes.
Zelenskyy did not expressly comment on Trump's assessment of Vladimir Putin's intentions. During the press conference, he repeatedly thanked Trump and paid tribute to his US team
