Colorado’s United Alliance for African Communities is Taking Shape

The idea of an alliance unit­ing Colorado’s African com­mu­ni­ties has been dis­cussed exten­sive­ly. But it’s nev­er been real­ized. That dream appears to be gain­ing some ground. 
 
It’s the vision of a hand­ful of Col­oradoans of African descent to pull their resources togeth­er and have the com­mu­ni­ty “speak with one voice.”
 
For many months, the Unit­ed Alliance for African Com­mu­ni­ties USA held meet­ings with the state’s lead­ers of African com­mu­ni­ty groups. The goals out­lined in the mis­sion state­ment were read aloud dur­ing each meeting.

United Alliance for African Communities Establishes a Presence

How­ev­er, it was only on Feb­ru­ary 24^th that the alliance was for­mal­ly launched at the Sher­a­ton Hotel in the Den­ver Tech Cen­ter. In atten­dance were some of Colorado’s top polit­i­cal lead­ers, includ­ing Attor­ney Gen­er­al Phil Weis­er, and Auro­ra May­or, Mike Coffman
 
“Today, we stand on the cusp of a remark­able jour­ney as we gath­er to launch the Unit­ed Alliance for African Com­mu­ni­ties,” said the organization’s vice pres­i­dent, Ebenez­er Norman.
 
“But let me start by say­ing that the sub­ject of Pan-African­ism remains impor­tant today as it was, in my view, many years ago,” said Dr. Mal­colm New­ton, pres­i­dent of the Alliance.
  
The group, aim­ing to grow into addi­tion­al loca­tions across the Unit­ed States, reports that its mem­bers hail from var­i­ous parts of the con­ti­nent, such as Liberia, Botswana, Ugan­da, and Eritrea.
