Colorado Taste of Africa
The Colorado Taste of Africa is an annual Africa-focused event that brings together the African community in Colorado to celebrate the continent’s peoples, cultures, and businesses in a friendly community atmosphere. However, there are several groups in the state that identify as the Colorado Taste of Africa. Yet the one that is often talked about is the group founded by Millete Birhanemaskel, from Ethiopia, and Serge-Patrick Kabongo, from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The late summer event meets annually at Utah Park in the city of Aurora. The event brings the community together to mingle, and discover African small businesses, entrepreneurs, associations, and community leaders. The event includes vendors, music, dance, and food from the African continent. In addition, politicians running for office have often found the opportunity and time to participate and share information about themselves and their campaigns for office.
The growing African community in Colorado consists of people and friends from Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Mali, Sudan, and the rest of the 54-nation African continent.
