US detects H5N1 bird flu in pig for first time

FILE – This 2005 electron microscope image from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control shows an avian influenza A H5N1 virion. The USDA on Oct. 30, 2024, said the H5NI bird flu has been found in a pig — the first time that has happened in the country.
