Unfortunately, ‘strongmen are back in fashion’: Philantropist Mo Ibrahim

In an interview with FRANCE 24, the renowned Sudanese-British billionaire and philantropist Mo Ibrahim asserted that “good leadership in Africa” has been deteriorating in recent years. His foundation, which is supposed to award an annual Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership, has not done so in the past five years. “We have unfortunately too many conflicts, too many strongmen. Strongmen are back in fashion, not only in Africa but everywhere now,” the businessman said. Ibrahim also commented on the humanitarian situation in war-torn Sudan, calling it “the worst tragedy today in the world”.
