Madagascar population welcomes new president as sign of needed political change

Madagascar’s new military ruler Michael Randrianirina said on October 15, 2025 he would soon be sworn in as president of the transition, after leading a coup against President Andry Rajoelina. Meanwhile calm largely returned to the capital, which had been rocked by weeks of protests against the ousted president.
