G20 summit boycotted by US opens in shadow of Trump’s Ukraine plan, COP30 impasse

Africa’s first G20 summit opened in South Africa on Saturday without the world’s biggest economy after US President Donald Trump ordered a boycott of the two-day gathering. The summit looked set to be overshadowed by Trump’s unilateral plan to end the war in Ukraine as well as the continuing deadlock at COP30 climate negotiations taking place in Brazil.
