The idea of an alliance uniting Colorado’s African communities has been discussed extensively. But it’s never been realized. That dream appears to be gaining some ground.

It’s the vision of a handful of Coloradoans of African descent to pull their resources together and have the community “speak with one voice.”

For many months, the United Alliance for African Communities USA held meetings with the state’s leaders of African community groups. The goals outlined in the mission statement were read aloud during each meeting.

However, it was only on February 24th that the alliance was formally launched at the Sheraton Hotel in the Denver Tech Center. In attendance were some of Colorado’s top political leaders, including Attorney General Phil Weiser, and Aurora Mayor, Mike Coffman

Today, we stand on the cusp of a remarkable journey as we gather to launch the United Alliance for African Communities,” said the organization’s vice president, Ebenezer Norman.

But let me start by saying that the subject of Pan-Africanism remains important today as it was, in my view, many years ago,” said Dr. Malcolm Newton, president of the Alliance.

The group, aiming to grow into additional locations across the United States, reports that its members hail from various parts of the continent, such as Liberia, Botswana, Uganda, and Eritrea.
